Grifola frondosa, referring to a mythical griffin, commonly known as Sheep's Head, Ram's Head and Hen of the Woods or Maitake, is an edible polypore mushroom.

The Maitake, or Hen of the woods gets its Japanese name from its unique appearance. It litterally means dancing mushroom.Also known as sheep's head, this mushroom grows wing like clusters at the foot of Oak trees. The Maitake mushroom is native to Japan and north america and has medicinal properties to balance out the bodies altered system to a normal level. The Hen of the woods is rich in Vitamin D and is believed to have medicinal properties that fight against cancer at the same time tasting like chicken! Research shows that the polysacharides in the mushroom contain beta glucans, which stimulate your immune system
